What Do Window Cleaners Use to Clean Windows?

Different methods for different windows ...

It is important to note that professional window cleaning methods differ greatly depending on if they are being cleaned internally or externally. Along with this the type of glass, its location and height can also make a difference.

Generally speaking, internal windows are cleaned in the 'traditional method' with an applicator or mop and squeegee. These time-tested tools are also used externally on ground level glass. However, when windows are high or hard to reach other methods are used including pure-water window cleaning with a reach-and-wash system.

At Melbourne Commercial Window Cleaning all types and sizes of windows are successfully cleaned, keeping our customers always happy. Below is a review of these two different methods:

Traditional

A bunch of cleaning supplies are sitting on the ground.

At Melbourne Commercial Window Cleaning, we believe in the classic approach to cleaning internal windows as well as ground level glass of businesses or shopfronts. Our skilled team utilizes the traditional mop and squeegee method, starting with a thorough wash using dish-washing liquid ... yes you heard correctly ... dish-washing liquid! Our liquid of choice is Morning Fresh but any supermarket product will usually be fine. This is then soaked in a lot of water from a bucket and then applied on the dirty windows.

The mop captures dirt and grime, and sometimes one are two goes are needed to ensure the glass is thoroughly cleaned. Once properly cleaned, the edges are frames are wiped with a microfiber cloth to remove any access water and dirt from the edges.

A high quality, industry standard, squeegee is then used to clean the water and dirt off the window. The squeegee glides effortlessly across the glass, removing excess water and leaving behind a streak-free shine. The key here is keeping the squeegee rubbers fresh and sharp so they remain effective. At Melbourne Commercial Window Cleaning we change our squeegee rubbers on a regular basis to ensure a professional finish with every stroke.

A final detail of the edges and any blemishes is given using a lint free cloth to ensures the window is always left sparkling clean ...

Pure Water System (Water-Fed)

Professional window cleaner is in front of a large building cleaning the second story windows.

When the external windows are too high or difficult to access, the pure water system comes into its own. The basic premise of these systems is they use purified water running to a brush head on a long carbon pole to safely clean high or hard to reach windows from the ground. Such systems provide greater safety and a professional finish to many commercial buildings.

There are two types of pure water systems available on the market. A cheaper to purchase, inferior Di-Ionizing (DI) system which solely uses chemical based resin to 'purify'tap water, ready for cleaning. Whilst cheap to purchase, the resin used is toxic and needs to be replaced frequently. The superior systems, as used at Melbourne Commercial Window Cleaning are Reverse Osmosis (RO) based pure water systems. These filters physically purify the water using a series of membranes and only use a tiny amount of DI resin at the end of the process to fully purify the water, ready for cleaning.

Once purified the water runs through a long hose to the carbon pole - which can extend up to 4 story's; and in some cases even higher! The brush on the end of the pole is used to 'agitate' or clean the dirt of a window after which the purified water running through the system rinses off any dirt or impurities from the glass or frames.

And the magic is ... because the water is completely purified, there is no need to use a squeegee or remove the water, it simply dries clear! This proven method has been used by Melbourne Commercial Window Cleaning for over a decade to successfully clean a large range of commercial buildings and business shop fronts.
